Who gets hurt in the supermarket price wars

Buy Cheap Software Microsoft Office 97 SR2 Norman Virus Control 5.9
Cashew nut processing employs over a million people in India alone. But most of these workers only receive 1% of the price they’re sold for in UK supermarkets. Supermarkets play a key role in declining standards for producers, by the transfer of risks and costs onto their suppliers.

These trading practices should have been eradicated years ago but they persist, partly due to the lack of effective regulation of UK supermarkets. The Competition Commission has proposed a new, tougher code of practice and an independent watchdog (an ombudsman) to enforce the code.

We are urging the Government to ensure the creation of this ombudsman, and to ensure it has the necessary powers to really affect the way supermarkets deal with their suppliers. Specifically it should be able to proactively investigate, rather than wait for suppliers to speak out and risk losing business. It should also be independent and properly resourced to ensure it actually has the capacity to investigate. Finally, it must have the power to sanction supermarkets for breaking the code, and to provide compensation for those affected by this.
