You can pray for justice as an individual or as a part of a group – God will hear your prayers no matter what.
Meditate on the verses below in a group or individually...
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”
(Matthew 5v9)
What does it mean to be a peacemaker?
“Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no-one will see the Lord.”
(Hebrew 12 v 14)
How can we live at peace with others? Can this apply to nations?
They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into prunning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
(Isaiah 2:3-5)
What could this transformation look like today? Pray that God gives you a vision for how you can work to bring his Kindgom.
You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
(Matthew 5 v 38 – 41)
Is this an unrealistic and naïve response to violence and oppression? Think about the Roman occupation of Israel at this time, what would freely obeying the Roman soldiers in this way have done?
How can we 'turn the other cheek' today and reflect God's character of love, justice and peace?
