Further prayer

As part of our Pray & Post card on the issue of armed drones we've included some points for you to pray or meditate on.

Further prayer on armed drones

Thank God for Jesus, the ultimate peace activist who preached and lived a life of peace
Pray for greater public awareness and concern over the issue of drones
Pray for all victims of war and in particular civilians who have been injured or lost loved ones. Pray they know Gods comfort
Pray for soldiers, that they may demonstrate self-control and know Gods love
Pray for military leaders as they make furture decisions about the use of drones and other types of weapons
Pray for world leaders, that they would be guided by His justice and truth above national interest or private gain
Above all, pray for justice and peace to rule, on earth as in heaven.

Prayers for groups or churches on the theme of peace

Almighty God, We long for the time when wars shall end, but know this time will never come until all people realise that the way of Christ is the only way of true peace.
We pray for all those who are victims of war:
For those whose homes have been destroyed;
For little children who have been left fatherless and motherless;
For the wounded who have suffered terrible disfigurement or the loss of a limb;
For those who have lost husband or wife, father or mother, brother or sister, and children, and all they hold most dear;
For those who have lost their means of livelihood;
For those who have become mentally unbalanced;
For those whose faith has been shaken;
Grant that your Spirit may enlighten the minds of leaders, so that they may see the uselessness of violence, and the wisdom of settling world affairs across a conference table.

Amen.

Lord, we pray for peace in our families that petty quarrelling may cease; for peace in our homes that love may overrule; for peace in our organisations, that all may work for the common good; for peace in the world, that greed and aggression may be overcome; for peace in each and every one of us, so that the peace we have in You may overflow to others.

Amen.

Prayer for peace by Tayport Parish Church

www.tayportparishchurch.co.uk/Prayer%20Stations1.pdf

For all those who have fallen victim to hatred and inhumanity, for those loved ones who are left behind to mourn, for the souls of those whose hearts are cold, Lord, hear our prayer.

For the children who are being born into this world of conflict and violence, for women and mothers who suffer needlessly, Lord, hear our prayer.

For all those who have been forced into unemployment, who long to return to work, for all those who struggle to support their families, Lord, hear our prayer.

For the soldiers who are misguided in thinking that their bullets will bring about peace, for those who feel called to conscientiously object to military orders, Lord, hear our prayer.

For the children who cry in their beds at night and wonder 'what have I done?', for the mothers and fathers who must try to explain the unexplainable, Lord, hear our prayer.

For all the children who have died before their time, for the soldiers who allow their uniform to strip them of their humanity, for the healers who are denied the opportunity to use their gifts, Lord, hear our prayer.

For the redemption of souls of both victim and perpetrator, for those who commit themselves to the forgiveness of sins, Lord, hear our prayer.

O God,
Open our eyes that we may see the needs of others;
Open our ears that we may hear their cries;
Open our hearts that we may feel their anguish and their joy.
Let us not be afraid to defend the oppressed, the poor, the powerless, because of the anger and might of the powerful.
Show us where love and hope and faith are needed, and use us to bring them to those places.
Open our ears and eyes, our hearts and lives, that we may in these coming days be able to do some work of justice and peace for you. Amen.

For peace in your country
For the victims of violence everywhere
For those struggling for peace and justice
For churches in conflict situations
For a world without war and violence

Lead me from death to life,
from falsehood to truth,
Lead me from despair to hope,
from fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love,
from war to peace,
Let peace fill our beings,
our world and our universe. Amen.

Prayer for peace by the Vancouver Assembly of the World Council of Churches

Prayers for individuals on the theme of peace:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

(Prayer by St. Francis of Assisi)

Make us worthy, Lord, to serve our fellow men throughout the world,
who live and die in poverty and hunger.
Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread
and by our understanding love give peace and joy.
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace.

That where there is hatred I may bring love,
That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness,
That where there is discord, I may bring harmony,
That where there is error I may bring truth,
That where there is doubt I may bring faith,
That where there is despair I may bring hope,
That where there are shadows I may bring light,
That where there is sadness I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort that to be comforted,
To understand than to be understood,
To love than to be loved.

For it is by forgetting self that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven,
it is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.

Amen.
