Duration: 8 Months (from October 2016 – May 2017 – with 2 months probation period)
Organisation Description
SPEAK is a national network of students and young adults who campaign and pray on issues of global justice. We are a campaign and activist company, charity and participatory network that aims to bring change. SPEAK began with Christian roots but in recent years we have also been working in other open partnerships and networks.
Since 1998, our primary goal has been to tactically address the root of global problems which threaten or harm human rights and human dignity. SPEAK has campaigned against the arms trade, climate change, corporate responsibility, food security and much more. By educating the public on such issues and empowering them to be a voice for those who are vulnerable in unfortunate circumstance, we are able to manifest our goals for global peace and take steps to ensure that it becomes a reality.
Job Description
SPEAK is looking to recruit a highly organised Event and Campaigns Co-ordinator who is keen to learn, ready for a challenge and prepared to undertake a range of varied tasks. We need this individual to also manage our small office competently and help us to look after our Network.
Duties and responsibilities
- Organising and promoting our upcoming event on April 29th 2017, including marketing, helping people to get booked in, and follow up of the event.
- Facilitating relationships within the event, e.g. co-ordinating SPEAK partnerships with Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne, the speakers.
- Co-ordinating the SPEAK student debt campaign and arms trade campaigns.
- Training, and supporting other students to work on campaigns.
- Being a consistent Network communications facilitator, for instance by producing and circulating the SPEAK Network emails and the Volumize newsletter.
- Provide relational support for SPEAK volunteers and links, SPEAK groups and SPEAK loudspeakers, training and co-ordinating a group of volunteers to work on this area.
- Developing partnerships for the event as a whole.
- Coordinating the implementation, budgeting and reports of Projects, Events and Campaigns, assuring a quality impact and effectiveness.
- Leading, developing and implementing strategies for growing and supporting the Network and the Regional Speak Groups.
- Representing the organisation as required, promoting its interests and good governance. Playing an active role contributing to a wider thinking and planning of the organisation.
- Implementing performance plans and supervising the staff.
- Maintaining positive ongoing communication with Partners and attending Partnership meetings aiming to agree on mutual cooperation and/or support.
- Building the presence and profile of SPEAK within creating and maintaining existing partnerships and networking with other community based and educational organizations.
- Supporting the national Network-based Campaigns Team and working with other national and regional teams to ensure activities run smoothly.
- Undertaking a broad range of administrative tasks in connection to the above.

- A good grasp on the UK youth Christian scene and ability to network with Christian youth justice organisations and other groups relevant to SPEAK’s established support base.
- Experience in using CiviCRM (web-based contact relationship management system) as well Xero accounting software (However, we will consider someone who is willing to learn on the job)
- Word and excel programs
- Experience with social media
- Experience of managing and developing efficient and robust Programme Management.
- Ability to plan, balance and cope with competing priorities.
- Ability to motivate and enthuse staff, colleagues, volunteers and external supporters.
- High standard of numeracy and budgeting skills.
- Good at influencing and persuading.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work calmly under pressure.
- This role requires flexibility.
Preferred Extra skills
- Formatting and designing leaflets ,ideally in Photoshop
- Web site update and maintenance (we use Drupal).
